Semaglutide Weight Loss Injections

If you’ve been told by your Boca Raton physician that you need to lose weight, you are not alone. Approximately 70% of American adults are obese or overweight, a severe health issue associated with some leading causes of death, including heart disease. Losing just 5% to 10% of body weight with diet and exercise has proven to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in adult patients who are considered obese or overweight.

Unfortunately, weight loss doesn’t always come easy, especially as an aging adult. IV Drips is proud to offer a revolutionary solution using semaglutide injections, the most recently FDA approved therapy for chronic weight management. This weekly, under-the-skin injection has been shown to help patients shed up to two pounds per week when paired with a decrease in calories and increase in physical activity.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. Semaglutide works by mimicking the action of GLP-1, a hormone that stimulates insulin secretion and lowers blood sugar levels. It is given under the skin in an injection. Most recently, semaglutide has been approved to help patients lose weight when they are obese or overweight and have at least one weight-related condition.

How Does Semaglutide Help You Lose Weight?

Semaglutide has been shown to help with weight loss in addition to its primary use in managing type 2 diabetes. The exact mechanism of how it helps with weight loss is not fully understood, but it is thought to involve the following factors.

At IV Drips in Boca Raton, we recognize that semaglutide can successfully help with weight loss through a combination of appetite reduction, slowing down stomach emptying, increasing insulin sensitivity, and increasing energy expenditure. Our team is fully equipped to prescribe, administer and monitor this innovative weight loss medication in qualifying individuals.

Who is a Candidate for Weight Loss Shots

Semaglutide is approved by the FDA for weight management in adults with obesity or who are overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol). In general, candidates for semaglutide weight loss injections are adults who have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 27 or higher and are struggling to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.

It is important to note that semaglutide is not suitable for everyone, and it may not be recommended for individuals with a history of pancreatitis or medullary thyroid carcinoma. A medical provider at IV Drips will evaluate your medical history, current medications, and overall health before determining if semaglutide is a suitable option for your weight loss.

What to Expect When Taking Semaglutide Injections

At IV Drips, we understand that patients may be worried about the side effects of semaglutide injections. The medication can cause some side effects, especially during the first few weeks of treatment, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. These side effects usually improve over time as the body adjusts to the medication, and they can be different for every patient.

Most people can expect a decrease in appetite and a faster feeling of fullness when eating. In terms of weight loss, semaglutide has been shown to be effective in helping people lose weight, with an average weight loss of about 15% of body weight over 68 weeks of treatment. Your personal weight loss results can vary and are largely dependent on factors such as adherence to a healthy diet and exercise program.
